Hello out there..

Friends, colleagues, and interested parties:

I am new to the world of blogging..to the world of speaking your mind to the masses and creating an environment that is totally controlled by you.  I have a vision for the world and what we could be, just like each and every one of you.  Everyone goes through soul searching..they think they’ve found the right path just to come to a stall 3 years down the road and realize they were wrong.  But you aren’t wrong, you chose a path..and that path had a purpose.  It brought a part of you to the light that you hadn’t seen before.  Some of you will enjoy my words, maybe even feel enlightened or humored..others will see me as ignorant.  See what you want; remain true to yourself.

It took me a long time to find peace..when I was in my early educational career I hadn’t experienced a deep understanding of knowledge.  Don’t get me wrong, high school shows you the basics..but college digs deep into those studies.  My college career also boomed with the amount of information available through technology.  You find out so much..and it’s sad.  There is so much beauty to the world, but damn if it doesn’t break your heart when you see the actual images of destruction page after page after page.  My heart was broken in college..the realization of the tragedies caused by our influence on this earth.  I felt helpless.  It hit me that what I can do is miniscule to the larger problem.  Our species is amazing, we are..but we have to do better.  We have to stop.  We are destroying our atmosphere..and trust me I’ve heard it all, I know there are some of you thinking that that is false and that it’s just a phase that’s happened before and we will be looking back on this 50 years from now and laugh.  It’s not.  Our population grew 1 billion more in a decade..we destroy land to build more vehicles, malls, hospitals, and suburbs in order to sustain us and make OUR lives better.  Those are temporary..we have to stop avoiding the cold hard facts of our future, and not only our future, but the future of our world.

In an effort to start talking to you, my conservation friends..I wrote to the International League of Conservation Writers..below is a little tid bit of what I said to them.

“I can’t satisfy this need to help; this need to make the uneducated aware of our environment.  Mahatma Ghandi once said, ‘What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.’  I want to be a part of the community that brings this to the attention of the world.  People choose to ignore the inevitable because they fear seeing the truth, and if you will let me, I want to be a part of bringing the truth into the light.  Thank you for your time, I know this may be wasted, but I can’t stay silent any longer.”
